Today is Earth Day! This is a day when we celebrate and appreciate the earth. The holiday started in 1970 to commemorate the earth, and is has since stuck. Today is also the anniversary of Vladimir Lenin's Birthday. The Omni Community celebrated Earth Day last week, and there is an animal quiz on Google to see which animal you are!
Last week, the Omni Adolescents had their Spring Break! Many of us went to the beaches along the Atlantic Coast, and some stayed home. Other events took place over the week, including Passover, a Jewish holiday; Easter, a Christian holiday; and the Masters Golf Tournament, which Jordan Spieth won by -18, the best finish in the tournament. Though we had a fun Spring Break and wish it were longer, we are ready for school and will work hard these next, and last, six weeks!
Today, March 30, 2015, is National Pencil Day, a day in which the invention of the pencil is celebrated. The pencil was patent #19783, by Hymen Lipman, on this day in 1858. Hymen Lipman was born in Jamaica, to English parents. Many other national holidays are celebrated today, and April Fools Day is coming up!
This week, the Omni Adolescents are going to have a math seminar about symmetry, and how symmetry can be found everywhere and how it helps us choose what is pleasing, or what looks the best. Students are to listen to at least one of three parts of a Radiolab show on symmetry: part 1 is called "Are you my Brain Double?", part 2 is called "Mirror, Mirror", and part 3 is called "Nothing's the Antimatter". A link to the radio show is listed below:

The picture of the dress is a different color for some people; some say white and gold, and some say blue and black. The actual dress, owned by a woman from Colonsay, a small island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, is royal blue and black, but, depending on how you see it, you may think this is not true. Decide which color the dress is, and you can click the link below to learn more about this phenomenon!
