CE|PE Update

9/26/2017

Creative Expression and Physical Expression are going great right now! There are 2 CE and 2 PE selections we are doing right now. The two CE selections are Cooking and Meal Prep. And for the 2 PE selections we have Fishing and Disc Golf. In Cooking, students are cooking well prepared food for community lunches. Which means students don't have to bring a lunch every Monday. We recently prepared  spaghetti and meat balls, and hot panini and chicken soup made from our own processed chickens. In the Meal Prep CE, we have made our own healthy smoothies with help from Kiran Smith,  author of 100 Days of Real Food. We have also learned how to avoid sugar and decipher food labels.

Sales, Seminars and Slice of Life!

We had a great time at the Back to School Picnic last Friday and would like to thank the Omni community for taking time to stop by our market table! Our first items to be sold were our eggs and honey, and unfortunately, we are out of honey until the spring season when we receive our new hive. We also sold some peppers and tomatoes from the garden, yarn from our sheeps-Lily and June, and lip balm which we made from the beeswax of the old hive.
We look forward to another market tomorrow from 3:30-4:30 at the Blakeney Campus. We'd also like to spread the word that the market on September 28th will not be held as usual at the Blakeney location because that evening we invite our whole community out to the Waxhaw Campus for our Slice of Life Event at 6:30. The event will feature information about life as an adolescent as we move through our campus's classrooms, Hacienda, and our farm structures. We hope to see all potential future students there with their families!
In other news, on our campus this week, our Culinary Creative Expression group cooked homemade soup and a variety of paninis for the whole community for lunch, while our Nutrition & Prepared Lunches group had an expert guest, Kiran Smith, who talked about refined sugars, the Dirty Dozen (suggested items to buy organic), and shared smoothie recipes! We also have already experienced vet visits for our injured rooster, (now named Mr. Cogburn) and another chicken from our farm this week, and participated in seminar discussions for Garden, Native American First Peoples, and Math. Our Garden Occupations is looking forward to purchasing a tractor for our farm so we can expand our garden space, and tomorrow will be the day we go shopping as a class!
That's all for now! Hope to see you at our market stand this week!

First of all, we'd like to thank everyone who supported us by stopping by our booth at the  Blakeney Campus Market last week! We'll be back again this Friday at the Welcome Back Picnic from 4:30-6:30 PM and look forward to seeing all our Omni families once again. We'll have fresh produce such as herbs, as well as other freshly grown crops from our garden like tomatoes and peppers. There will be a variety of our other products like jams, honey and dried peppers, but as always, we'll have our eggs available!
This week at school we cooked a Native American feast using traditional recipes of the Native American people we are learning about in Humanities.  Tomorrow, in Garden Occupations we will have a field trip to Dabhar farms to see organic farming in action. Our other Micro-economy Occupation is working hard to bring more products to our community. It's going to be a great year at the AP!
